Visit Water Castle  25 June 08

Taman Sari, the ruins of a water castle, built in 1758, located west of Karaton. It was once a splendid pleasure park of the Sultans and Royal Families but was badly damaged due to an earthquake in 1865.

Alley scene in the Kumpong before entering Taman Sari - the Water Castle beside the sultan palace - Kraton.

Looks like Chinese temple!

This is the entrance to the Water Castle.
The bathing pool has been restored.

The people living around the Water Castle are the descendents of those who served the Sultan. These people are just like those who live in the 'Hutong' outside the Forbidden City in Beijing.

Very neat and tastefully decorated with plants.
Tourist learning Batik painting.
The ruins
Bird eye view of the down town area near to Malioboro
